Affiliate Programs: Your RSS Feeds SUCK

February 24th, 2009 · No Comments

This is an uncensored, shot from the hip rant on affiliate programs with shotty RSS feeds.

Affiliate programs: If you have any of the following, you’re wasting bloggers’ time and actually being counterproductive to your own goals:

  • Static feeds.  No matter how much text you use or how often you update, all of your affiliates will have duplicate content which is no good.
  • Stale feeds.  If you don’t update your feeds at least a couple of times a week, you’re underachieving.
  • Grainy, small content.
  • Lack of textual content.  The SE’s don’t care about your content (less the file name, alt tags etc). They feed on text.  Give them lots of it.  Make sure you keywords are targeted.

These are the 4 basic no-no’s of managing your RSS feeds for affiliates.  Don’t waste your time or theirs with anything less.  There’s a myriad of other things you could do to have cutting edge RSS feeds such as ‘morphing’ and providing cutting edge, customizable RSS feed generators giving your affiliates ultimate power in what is presented on their blogs.  To learn more about RSS feed ‘morphing’ head over to MorphFeeds.
